Roof installation is a big job, but it’s our mission to make it as easy as possible on you. Here’s how the process works, in order:
- Protection of your home and landscape
- Removal of old roof
- Thorough inspection of decking
- Preparation for new roof
- Installation of new materials
- Clean-up
The Roof Installation Process, Explained
When our clients come to us for roof installation, we make sure they know what to expect. Your roof inspector and your crew will explain every step of the process to you, but here’s a quick run-down.
Protection of Your Home and Landscape
Our main goal is to protect your windows, siding, landscaping and the other features of your home. We might advise you to bring potted plants inside, move lawn furniture and park your car in the street during the project to keep them safe. Your roofing crew will also take precautionary measures to protect anything that won’t move, like your home itself, that could be damaged by falling debris.
Removal of Old Roof
We’ll take off all your old shingles so we can inspect the wood decking beneath them. Our crew will carefully remove everything that’s damaged, as well.
Thorough Inspection of Decking
In order to install your new roof, we need to ensure that the wood decking is solid and in good shape. We’ll inspect every inch of it to look for soft, rotted or wet wood, and if we find any, we’ll replace it.
Preparation for New Roof
Once the decking is ready to go, we’ll install drip edges to prevent rain from getting into your roofing materials. We’ll also install the underlayment, which helps ensure ice and water won’t damage the wood decking in the future, and roofing felt to prevent the shingles from sticking to the wood.
Installation of New Materials
The next phase of the project is when you’ll really start seeing your new roof take shape – it’s when we install your new roofing materials. Whether you’ve chosen shingles or another product, this is the part of roof installation that you’ll like the most. We work from the bottom up and create a whole new look for your home.
Clean-Up
We pick up the mess we left behind. We’ll remove all your old roofing materials and scour the area for nails and other debris – the natural byproducts of a new roof installation. We’re not happy until you’re happy, so it’s our mission to clean every job site perfectly.
Once it’s all said and done, we’ll perform a post-installation inspection. We’ll go back over every inch of your roof and make sure it’s done properly, and we’ll be there to answer your questions, explain your new roof’s features, and walk you through the maintenance steps you’ll need to take in the future.
